What is Acne?

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions that affects boys and girls mostly during adolescent years, but it can affect a person at any age.
It is recurring in nature and surfaces again and again. In many cases, the blisters or pustules formed during an acne and pimples outbreak can go deeper and form cysts.

These cysts leave marks and scars on the skin after healing. Skin produces sebum to keep its upper surface moist and soft.

This sebum is released through skin pores. Accumulation of dead skin cells, dust particles, and debris blocks these pores.

Excessive oil presence and traces of creams, makeup, and pollutants also cause blockages in skin pores.

Due to blockages, sebum gets blocked under the skin, and when it gets infected with bacteria present on the skin, it causes the formation of a pustule.

These pustules can be many in number and can appear in a cluster over a small part of the skin.

Though these pustules drain and heal on their own after a week or so, their recurrence and appearance make them intolerable for any person.

Acne homemade treatments drain and heal pimples in a shorter duration without any marks.

Frequent occurrences of acne can make skin rough, spotted, and dull, and add a few years to one’s appearance.

The pustules formed during acne are filthy and unsightly, and can make a person embarrassed and uncomfortable in facing people.

Acne has a genetic propensity too; it has been seen running in families, and parents can pass this tendency to one or all the children.

This problem is not new; it was present even in old times, but recent changes in the environment, diet, and lifestyle have certainly made it more common.

Oily and dry skin conditions due to genetic reasons are more prone to suffering from acne.

However, people with normal skin also suffer from acne frequently if proper care is not taken.

Home remedies for pimples are reckoned as the most suitable treatment for all types of skin.

Causes and Symptoms of Acne

The causes of acne can be divided into four parts: oil production, bacteria, dead skin cells, and clogged pores.

During adolescent years, hormonal changes can trigger excessive oil production, which is a major cause of acne during that age.

Even at a later age, hormonal disturbances can trigger an acne outbreak by stimulating sebaceous glands and increasing the production of sebum.

Excessive sebum secretion makes skin oily, and debris and dust get stuck to the skin to block its pores. These blockages can trigger acne.

Bacteria are present on the skin and remain even after washing the face.

The bacteria, if they grow out of proportion, can easily sneak into the skin and infect the sebum build-up to form pustules.

Its higher presence also triggers an immune system response, which can cause inflammation to cause blockages in skin pores. Both of these conditions trigger acne.

Exposure to the harsh environment, poor care of skin, poor health, use of harsh cosmetics, and pollutants can cause dead skin cells in higher numbers.

These dead skin cells block skin pores and cause sebum build-up beneath the skin to promote an acne outbreak.

Clogged pores due to inflammation of the skin, dead skin cells, oil layer, dust particles, and traces of creams, cosmetics, chemicals, etc., are major reasons for an acne outbreak.

Apart from these hormonal disturbances, the use of certain types of medicines, eating high-carb foods, and stress can worsen acne.

These factors can cause frequent outbreaks and make pimples grow deeper to harm the skin and form marks and scars. Genetics is also responsible for causing acne.

Whiteheads and blackheads are early symptoms of an acne outbreak. Whiteheads are closed pustules, while blackheads are open comedones that turn into pimples or drain out.

Formation of small tender bumps and fluid-filled pimples is another symptom of acne.

Formations of lumps beneath the skin, which may or may not be painful, are symptoms of aggravated acne.

These usually leave a scar after healing. The pimples or papules can occur in clusters or randomly over the skin.

These usually affect parts of the skin with dense sweat glands, like the face, shoulders, armpits, chest, etc. These can recur again and again.
